Amy Mctaggart
Amy Mctaggart was born on the 27th January 1995, weighing 4lbs and 8oz. She was a desperately wanted and much loved niece, granddaughter, cousin and above all daughter. She had a rare genetic condition known as Walker Warburg Syndrome (Brain, Muscle, Eye Disorder), and could not live without life support. Ventilation was discontinued after 13 days and on 9th February we said goodbye as she died in our arms. She was laid to rest on St. Valentines Day.
Our lives, and the lives of our families and friends were devastated by this tragedy. All that was left was a gaping hole in our hearts and the empty arms. These were dark days, but with the help of Helene Currie and SANDS, we knew that we were not alone. Finding strength through shared experiences and making friends who would never tire of hearing the same story.
Amy has two little brothers now. Ewan is 10 years old and his younger brother Shaun is now 7 years. Although she cannot be with us she will always be part of our lives.
I, her mum have gone onto become a SANDS Befriender, I started in approximately 1998. This, I do for her and for myself, to try to help other people to come to terms with loss of their babies. I offer a listening ear and an understanding of others grief and pain, so that hopefully they may find acceptance and peace.
